Its theoretical framework combined (1) Talmy´s verb-framed/satellite-framedlanguage typology, (2) Whorf´s hypothesis of linguistic relativity, and (3) McNeill´sconception of gesture and speech. Analysis of verbal and gestural descriptions of motionrevealed that, while there were considerable verbal differences, French and Czechgestures were far more similar than expected. These findings are discussed in terms ofthe role of gesture in the expression of speakers’ intentions. %G English %L hal-01897565 %U https://univ-tlse2.hal.science/hal-01897565 %~ SHS %~ EPHE %~ UNIV-TLSE2 %~ CNRS %~ AO-LINGUISTIQUE %~ CLLE %~ OCTOGONE %~ PSL %~ TEST-DEV %~ UNIV-BORDEAUX-MONTAIGNE %~ EPHE-PSL
